Looking forward to presenting Stop Gambling, Embrace Your Agile Superpowers!
You can find a lot more about Agile Superpowers in this detailed article: Agile Superpowers – Being Agile.
The presentation was co-developed with myself and Stephen Starkey. We will be presenting at the Scrum Gathering in Las Vegas in May. For anyone not heading to the Scrum Gathering in Vegas, I’ll be presenting at the Agile Denver Coaching SIG on 2/21. Stephen may also be presenting in the Chicago area.
Here is the overview of the workshop:
They say the most important part of agile is people.
Being agile often seems elusive, like a jackpot in Vegas or seeing Bigfoot. It seems easy to become better at “doing agile things,” but how do you grow in “being agile?” The Agile Superpowers tool offers a method of deepening your understanding of Agile by allowing you to “steep” in a Superpower and work deeply with how it might change the way you work. You will have the opportunity to choose which Superpower to explore (Courage (Heart), Deep Democracy, Playfulness, Respect, Collaboration, Curiosity (Awareness), Commitment) and to interact with others in deepening your understanding of how to use the Superpower. For example, a Sprint Planning meeting gets “stuck,” and you ask yourself, “As a team member or even coach, how might I have been differently in that situation to ‘unstick’ it?” You may take the opportunity to “stand in” the Superpower of “Playfulness” and realize that everyone in the room may be just a bit too serious, prompting you to toss in a silly idea that stimulates interesting and fruitful conversation. Or perhaps the “Courage” Superpower might allow you to take a stand for an important position.
Standing in an Agile Superpower is an act of bravery itself — embodying it is more than saying, “I’m going to be playful,” or, “I’m going to be courageous.” As we walk through the exercise, you will go through a series of steps that will allow you to fully experience an Agile Superpower and increase your potential to activate it in difficult situations.
Agile Superpowers are based on meta-skills, which were come from Arnold and Amy Mindell. The Center for Right Relationships (CRR Global) built on the Mindells’ ideas and adapted these concepts to work with teams using an interactive format. Our presentation is based on these ideas, adapting and focusing on agile challenges. The Agile Coaching Institute also uses these ideas – which is how I initially found out about meta-skills!
